Category: Dance Studio (129 listings)

The Academy was formed in 2004 to offer students in southeastern Michigan the opportunity to study Russian classical ballet in a structure reminiscent of a traditional Russian ballet academy. Our instructors are classically trained dancers who studied at a variety of top ballet schools and performed extensively. Classes are available for beginners through advanced, children through adult, male and female, in classical ballet, character, and a variety of folk dance traditions. At the Academy of Russian Classical Ballet, students receive training in a disciplined but supportive setting.

This is only my third year studying ballet here, but I feel as if this is where I started and the only studio I've ever danced at. The training here is top-notch; professional dancers come here to hone their technique, students from boarding schools come here on break, and they say that the training is as challenging--or even more so! All five teachers are attentive, patient, youthful, energetic, and courteous. The atmosphere is always one of concentration, hard work, support, and enthusiasm where each student strives to improve and the teachers focus on each student individually. The Academy offers technique, classical variations, pointe, contemporary, character dance, and conditioning/stretch classes for children through adults. All teachers were trained at world famous ballet schools in Russia, Bulgaria, Japan, and the US and have come from professional dance careers, passing on to students their passion, technique, and artistry. Students from the Academy have gone on to the best boarding schools and professional companies. Every December, students have the opportunity to perform in several full-blown Nutcracker shows, alongside the First Soloist of Kirov/Mariisnky Ballet, Anton Korsakov, and a professional ballerina by invitation. Students have the rare chance to take private and master classes with visiting famous dancers and instructors. Every spring, the Academy takes students to St. Petersburg, Russia, for the International Ballet Festival "Dance Open" to study and perform. The Academy also performs an annual Spring Show (past productions have included Sleeping Beauty, La Bayadere, Paquita, Giselle, Swan Lake / Le Corsaire concert program).

I've been a student at the Academy since it opened, and had only started ballet the year before with Sergey at a previous location. I would not be anywhere near where I am today if it hadn't been for them. The Academy offers an extremely motivational and supportive environment, and students will improve extraordinarily. It really is the best place for ballet anywhere around, and I'm fortunate it's so close!

I have been dancing with Sergey and Jessica for the last seven years, and I would like to say that my technique has improved immensely here. The dancers who train here have gone on to study ballet for the year and summers at the Kirov Academy of D.C., Vaganova Academy (in Russia), the National Ballet School of Canada, School of American Ballet, Boston Ballet, San Fransisco Ballet, The Princess Grace School of Monaco, and many other impressive ballet schools. The amount of personal attention is here amazing, and the school really does feel like one big family. Dancers here have also one impressive awards at the YAGP ballet competitions. Definitely a more comprehensive than competitive atmosphere, I reccommend this to any dancer who wishes to get the best training in Michigan.

This studio is a top-notch place to learn Russian style ballet. The instructors are all former professional dancers who treat each student with respect and encourage every dancer, no matter his/her skill level, to strive for their best. These instructors do not yell or use sarcasm with their students, but they do expect each student to be motivated to pay attention and learn proper technique.

Watch for the Recitals. Worth looking at for moderate to advanced training.
