Cobblestone streets, 19th century stores, an auto assembly line, toy trains, and a fur trading post from the 1700s are only a few of the wonders to see at the Detroit Historical Museum. Since 1928, the Museum has chronicled the life and times of the region, safeguarding its rich history.
The Detroit Historical Museum, located at 5401 Woodward Ave. (NW corner of Kirby) in Detroit's Cultural Center area, is open to the public Wednesday through Sunday. Permanent exhibits include the famous Streets of Old Detroit, Frontiers to Factories, The Motor City, and The Glancy Trains.

This museum has always brought past history of the Detroit area to life. From a child in elementary school visiting on a field trip to an adult that dabbles in genealogy, this place always brings our ancestors trials and efforts to the present.
I have the best childhood memories of going to the historical museum as a kid with both school and the Girl Scouts. I later had the opportunity to work next door at the Detroit Public Library and got to wander around on my lunch hours. It's still good fun there.
