The first Sanders fountain counter opened on June 17, 1875 in Downtown Detroit. Over the next one hundred years, that number would grow to more than fifty as Sanders parlors became a fixture on Main Streets throughout Michigan.
Over the years, people have shared their memories of the popular Ice Cream Sodas, Handmade Chocolates and Hot Fudge Cream Puffs that you could only find at a Sanders parlor.
We are pleased to return the Sanders storefront to Metro Detroit. Visit one of our 4 locations in Laurel Park Place in Livonia, the Village shopping district of Grosse Pointe, east of Woodward in Birmingham or north of Eureka in Wyandotte...and make sure you ask for your free sample!

This could be answered in one word: Bumpy Cake! Even so, Detroit's own Sanders is what an ice cream parlor should be; counter seating and heaps of ice cream drowning in rich, delectable toppings with a "sip" of fountain water served in a dixie cup...timeless.
Not one other place in this entire world can have the best Milk Chocolate Hot Fudge Sauce as Sanders not to mention their bumpy bliss cake. Sanders sets THE standard for quality and consistency in product. Their hot fudge sauce is like silk going down. It is never clumpy or coarse, just smooth and very delicious. No one but no one can even come close to Sanders. I am so happy it came back into Detroit. My only wish is that it would be sold here in Houston.
I am a hot fudge connoisseur. It has been my favorite ice cream based desert since I was a kid and over the last 35 years I have sampled hot fudge from pretty much every company worldwide that produces it and the more varieties I try, the more crystal clear it becomes that Saunders Milk Chocolate Hot Fudge is hands down the best hot fudge in the world. I have tried a few from France and Italy that were pretty close however they simply couldn't beat Saunders. Its not just the flavor that makes Saunders #1, its also the consistency. Its absolutely PERFECT. You change anything about that recipe and your only making it worse. It simply is impossible to improve upon.
Its a real shame that the VAST majority of Saunders parlors were shut down like 10-15 years ago. There used to be one right by the old Crowley's in Farmington which just happened to be right by my house. I had at least 2-3 Hot Fudge Sundays a week there for what had to be 15 years running when it finally shut down. I actually didn't even know that one was still in the area until I accidentally stumbled upon it at Laurel Park while shopping. I was in absolute shock and immediately went in, sat down and pigged out!
You certainly don't have to visit a Saunders parlor for you to enjoy Saunders Hot Fudge as they sell it in stores across Metro Detroit however with that being said there is just something about those parlors that makes everything taste just that much better. One thing is for sure, as long as you use Saunders Hot Fudge and as long as you use a quality ice cream, well lets just say your in for one mean hot fudge Sunday. You can search the world over and you still wont find a better hot fudge. Trust me, I know first hand.
