Detroit's historic Scarab Club has been dedicated to serving the public and Michigan artists of all disciplines for 100 years. The club accomplishes this mission through classes, lectures, exhibitions, special events, and tours. The Scarab Club strives to promote local artists, emerging and experienced. It also hosts a variety of educational and instructional events.
Works by Michigan artists are always on display in the galleries. Each year the club hosts four juried and four invitational exhibitions featuring established and emeriging artists. Member exhibitions are shown in the second floor lounge gallery.
The Scarab Club building, constructed in 1928, is listed in the National Register of Historic Places as a site of historical and architectural significance. The club features a main gallery, a spacious beamed lounge area with fireplace, artists' studios, and a walled garden and courtyard. Over the decades the beams in the lounge have been signed by club presidents, supporters of the arts, and well-known local and international artists, such as Diego Rivera, Norman Rockwell, Marshall Fredricks, Marcel Duchamp, Tyree Guyton and Elmore Leonard.
Galleries are open to the public from noon -5pm Wednesday thru Sunday and during evening and weekend hours for special events.

Absolutely the best facilities for art exhibitions in a historic setting. Love the historic ambience of the second floor lounge with all the famous names inscribed on the beams of visual, performing and literary artists!

Chamber music at the Scarab Club is one of our favorite city events. It's a marvelous way to enjoy good music in the context of a gallery setting. Some of the city's finest performers are featured. While there, you can take in the gallery also. It's a lovely night out in an intimate and beautiful environment and it delights all the senses (yes, there are refreshments also!)

The Scarab Club is such an amazing peice of Detroit history, as much talent shown in many other art galleries...there is just no other art gallery that comes close to touching the character and natural beauty in this building. The feeling when you walk into each room, the scent of antique wood, the ambience, second to none!

The Scarab Club has consistently supported Michigan artists since its inception in 1907 as the Hopkin Club and provided arts programming for the community since the opening of its clubhouse in 1928. I really enjoy the first Friday art opening receptions. Looking forward to the next one!

It's the Granddaddy of all art galleries in Metro Detroit! It's roster of artists over the years alone puts it over the top!

The Scarab Club nurtures the Detroit art scene and it's a great corner stone that tells us where we've been and where we're going.

History of local and visiting artist mixes with current artists. A connection to painted canvas, sculpture, and photography is easily felt when friends get together in an atmosphere of past and present. That feeling is alive at the Scarab Club.
