The Old Shillelagh
Category: Irish Pub (21 listings)
John Brady and Charlie Taylor opened the Old Shillelagh in February of 1975. It was an immediate success. Charlie, a singer, brought in his fans, and John who had lived part of his boyhood in Dublin, kept the place oiled and running. Later that year they exercised their option to buy the building and immediately began remodeling the second floor.
In 1986, John and Marlis Brady decided to retire and sold the business to their daughter Barbara who had years of experience working for them. The following St. Patrick's Day Barbara put up huge tents on the adjacent parking lots and thus began "The World's Biggest St. Patrick's Day Party".
In 2005, in time for the 30th Anniversary, Barbara made her daughter Shellie and Nancy, close friend of the family, managers and now a third generation runs the daily operation of the Old Shillelagh.

I love this place, even when it's crowed. The entertainment is great. When we have company from out of town. It's a must to go to Old Shillelagh. It's so much fun and everyone is friendly. Swinging place.

The Old Shillelagh is one the best authentic Irish Pub in Detroit. It is a cute old fashioned Irish pub that has a great location in the heart of Greektown. It is a great location close to all sports venues and offers a shuttle bus so you can enjoy your time at the Old Shillelagh and get to the game on time and then enjoy more time at the Old Shillelagh.

Always a party both upstairs and down, good selection of drinks and resonable prices, and bar far one of the best if not the best pre & post game spot.

They treated all of my friends and I like family from the start, 26 years ago. Now we really are family. A friendly, fun and safe atmosphere. Windsor On. Canada loves you.
