Zingerman's Bakehouse

Zingerman's Delicatessen was opened in March of 1982 by Paul Saginaw and Ari Weinzweig in an historic building near the Ann Arbor Farmers' Market. In 1992 Zingerman's Bakehouse set up shop on Plaza Drive in Ann Arbor. Founded because the folks at the Deli wanted better bread for their sandwiches, the Bakehouse soon gained a loyal following to their Bakeshop near the Ann Arbor airport. A national reputation for traditionally made breads and pastries soon followed and the Bakehouse gained fans all over the country thanks to Zingerman's Mail Order (zingermans.com) shipping breads, pies and cakes from coast to coast. In 2006, ZIngerman's Bakehouse opened BAKE!, a hands-on teaching bakery dedicated to showing adults, teens and kids how to make breads and pastries the Zingerman's way.

How can you not vote for Zingerman's Bakehouse? Not only is everything super delicious, but the service is wonderful. All bread aside, Zingerman's gives back to the community by donating 10% of what they make. Truly a caring business!

it's artisan, it's made with real ingredients, no fillers and the crust is actually thick and chewy the way bread should be.

The Chili Cheddar Bread is amazing...the ingredients like Vermont Grafton Cheddar and New Mexico Green Chilies make the difference.

Zingerman's utilizes the most superb ingredients and knowledgeable and skilled staff to obtain the most outstanding results. The variety of wonderful fare -- the baked goods, soups, cheeses, sandwiches -- simply make The Bakehouse a run-away choice as the BEST!

It's a love/hate relationship. They alone are responsible for the excess ten or so pounds I lug around.
The chocolate sourdough...the chocolate cherry bread...and my favorite, 8-grain 3-seed loaf. Oh my.
And Ari...everyone loves Ari. xo.

A great "out of the way" find to watch the bread being made, smell the pastries baking, and eat a yummy soup and sandwich lunch on picnic tables in the garden. Can't be beat.
